First and foremost when you take your self or your business live on a social network you need to play the game in context.

That means, producing content for that platform. Use the tools it provides and stay tune with what the audience there expects. Here are five things you can do to make sure you’re “fitting in” on Twitter.

  1. Show behind the scenes: We talked about this before, but some behind the scenes photos or short videos are a great way to boost interest in your business in the long term. Twitter is a especially good place to do this.
  2. Exlusivity: Offer something exclusive to your followers. If you’re runnng a promo, why not offer something unique just for your Twitter followers. Give them a special discount code that you won’t get anywhere else.
  3. Fun: Keep it light and fun. Even run a contest over Twitter — Try photography, caption contests, selfie contests, anything that encourages your audience to send you something that’s easy to do and quick.
  4. Unique content: I talk about repurposing content across all your channels where you can. But that’s not to say you can’t choose a format that is unique and best suited to Twitter.
  5. Community: Many of us have lost the “social” in social media, and Twitter is a great place to join and create communities. If you haven’t already, look into some Twitter chats. They happen at specific times of the week and are a great way to connect with like-minded people.
